Howard Blane Wyatt, 85, of Metropolis, formerly of Trigg County, Ky., died Sunday, March 25, 2012 at Metropolis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his family.

Mr. Wyatt was a sergeant in the U.S. Army. He was a World War II veteran in Japan and retired from the Corp of Engineers, Lock and Dam 53 in Olmsted after 30 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by five children, Sandra Phillip of Cairo, Ronald Wyatt and wife Anita of Paducah and Cheryl Glass and husband Jack, Justin Wyatt and wife Rhonda and Deborah Roberts and husband John, all of Metropolis; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Lexie Ladd of Princeton, Ky.; one nephew, Ricky Ladd of Princeton; and several aunts and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Sadie Bridges Wyatt; and his parents, Tillmon and Myrtle Wyatt of Princeton, Ky.

Graveside service was held Tuesday at Metropolis Memorial Gardens with Rev Marc Glass officiating.

Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home of Metropolis was in charge of arrangements.
