James Edward Bowman, 53, of Metropolis, died Friday, Oct. 21, 2011 at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Missionary Baptist Church in Metropolis, with Rev. Garnell Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at the Masonic Cemetery in Metropolis.

Mr. Bowman was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as an usher. He was employed as an operator with Honeywell of Metropolis.

Bowman was formerly employed by the City of Metropolis and WDDJ Radio Broadcasting. He coached in the Khoury League basketball and baseball teams.

He was a graduate of Hopkinsville, Ky. High School and West Kentucky State Vocational-Technical School in electronics.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Sharon P. Bowman of Metropolis; two sons, Billy Ray Cooley of Tucson, Ariz. and Aaron Edward Bowman of Metropolis; four grandchildren; three sisters, Ollie Mae Herring of Indianapolis, Ind. and Dianna Gray and Katherine Bronaugh, both of Hopkinsville; three brothers, Leroy Davie, Clarence Henry Bowman and Gary Wayne Bowman all of Hopkinsville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Hardy Bowman and Sallie Mae Jones Bowman; and three brothers.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour on Saturday at the church.

Pettus-Rowland Funeral Home of Paducah is in charge of arrangements.
