Honorable James L. Foreman, 85, of Paducah and Key Largo, Fla., formerly of Metropolis, passed away at 9:35 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Lourdes hospital in Paducah.

Memorial service will be at held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 8, at Metropolis First United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Motta officiating. Burial will follow at the Round Springs Cemetery in Metropolis.

Judge Foreman was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois and the University of Illinois School of Law. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.

He established the law practice of Chase and Foreman in 1955 in Metropolis. He served as Illinois States Attorney for Massac County. In 1972, he was appointed United States Federal Judge for the Southern District of Illinois where in 1979 he was appointed Chief Judge. He continued to serve in that capacity until 2006 when he took senior status.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mabel Dunn Foreman of Paducah and Key Largo; three daughters, Beth Foreman Banks of Paducah, Rhonda Foreman Wittig and husband Don of Bayview, Texas and Nanette Foreman Love and husband Mike of Paducah; seven grandchildren, Whitney Ann Banks of Franklin, Tenn., Sidney Banks Benson and husband Mark of Hilton Head, S.C., Harold Burton Banks III of Paducah, James Edward Banks of Paducah, Allison Riepe Boykin and husband C.J. of Key Largo, Michael Clyde Love Jr. of Paducah and Conrad Foreman Love of Columbia, Mo.; five great-grandchildren, Calley Sutton Zorn Jr. of Franklin, August Burton Zorn of Franklin, Luke Anthony Benson of Hilton Head, Liam Banks Benson of Hilton Head and James Ryan Boykin of Key Largo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Courtney and Anna Elizabeth Henne Foreman.

There will be no visitation.
