James Elmer Johns, 89, of Metropolis, died Thursday, March 15, 2012 at his home.
Mr. Johns was a member of Metropolis Church of Christ and retired from Frank Farmer Chevrolet in Metropolis as parts manager after 54 years of service.
He was an Army veteran, serving during World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Wanda Johns; two daughters, Karen Woods and husband Steve of Paducah and Beth Shelton and husband Galen of Metropolis; four grandchildren, Dr. Dustin Woods of Louisville, Ky., Natalie Brenningmeyer and husband Jake of Paducah and Emily Forthman and husband Adam and Cody Shelton and wife Kim, all of Metropolis; and one great-granddaughter, Jordan Forthman of Metropolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dalma and Effie Sharp Johns; two brothers, Woodrow “Woody” and Merrit Johns; and one sister, Violet Coates.
Funeral service was held Sunday at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Michael Shank officiating.
Burial followed at Metropolis Memorial Gardens, where military graveside rites were conducted.
Pallbearers were Jake Brenningmeyer, Cody Shelton, Adam Forthman, Steve Woods, Galen Shelton and Dustin Woods.
