James A. Qualls, 78, of Grand Chain, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012 at his home.

Mr. Qualls was a former police officer for five years in Benton.

He recently celebrated his 50th year of pastoring for the Churches of God.

After retiring from the church, Mr. Qualls worked at Sam’s Club in Paducah.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Qualls of Grand Chain; two sons, Lanny Qualls and wife Holly of Danville and Lyndal Qualls and wife Cheryl of Massac County; one grandson, Eric Qualls of Massac County; two stepdaughters, Tammy St. Arbor and husband Michael of Villa Ridge and Tina Helton; three stepgrandchildren, Ashley Lopez and husband Carlos of Equador and Kayla St. Arbor and John Mikulich, both of LaCenter, Ky.; one sister, Sybil Lindley and husband Boyce of Ormond Beach, Fla.; one brother, Douglas Qualls and wife Sybil of Paragould, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie and Frances Croslow Qualls; his first wife, Margaret Ann Butler Qualls; and one brother, Darrell Qualls.

Funeral service was held Saturday at Brookport Church of God with Rev. Charles Tate officiating.

Burial followed at Anderson Cemetery in Boaz.
