James F. Skyles, 75, of Metropolis, died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011 at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Rev. William C. France officiating.

Burial will follow at Golconda IOOF Cemetery with military rites. Pallbearers will be Michael Loven, Bill Skyles, John Hentschel, Scott Ferguson, Bobby Ferguson and Randy Rose.

Mr. Skyles was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Delight Engelhardt Skyles of Metropolis; two daughters, Linda Loven and husband Mike of Metropolis and Leslie Hentschel and husband John of Carbondale; one stepson, Stephen Austin and wife Linda of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren; Kennedy Loven of Metropolis and Loren Hentschel and Ivan Hentschel, both of Carbondale; one brother, Bill Skyles of Albuquerque, N.M.; one sister, Marilyn Rose of Harrisburg; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Gertrude Elliston Skyles; one sister, Barbara Stevens; and one stepdaughter, Joy Green.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour on Thursday at the funeral home.
