John Daniel Burton, 54, of rural Marion, formerly of Metropolis, passed away at his home on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013 at midnight with his wife at his side.

John was born in Paris, Tenn. to Jacob Robert and Mabel Bell Burton on Saturday, Oct. 18, 1958. He married Karla Lee Parks, and she survives of Marion.

Mr. Burton had recently retired from Marion Federal Penitentiary.

He enjoyed playing the fiddle, fishing and farming. John loved riding his motorcycle with his family and friends.

John most loved traveling with his wife and spending precious time with his grandchildren.

Besides his wife, John is survived by his children, Jason and Cassie Emerson, John and Chelsea Emerson and Matthew and Valerie Jones; his stepchildren, Jason and Kami Parks and Krystal and Christopher Gage; his grandchildren, Nathan Emerson, Brookelyn Emerson, Miley Emerson, Bentley Emerson, Zachary Jones, Addison Emerson, Reagan Parks and Gracie Gage; his siblings, Robert Samuel Burton, Mark Burton, Glenda Smallwood, Martha Millikan, Becky and James McHughen, Sheila and Clyde Hunt and Jeanette and Steve Gardner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Emmett Burton, Phyliss Jean Daniels and Clara May Burton.

Funeral service was held Saturday at Blue Funeral Home in Marion. Interment followed at Griffin Cemetery-Bell Smith Springs-Shawnee National Forest, south of Harrisburg.
