John Douglas “J.D.” Seitzinger, 69, of Metropolis, passed away at 1 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, 2012 at his home.

J.D. was a respected teacher who dedicated his life to youth.

He was an outdoor enthusiast, a conservationist in the truest since of the word, an avid wing shooter, a coach to many in many different ways and a lover of children and dogs.

While he was an accomplished carpenter, he was also a master piddler. J.D. was a role model to his family and community and a servant leader to those in need.

He is survived by his wife of over 48 years, DeEtta Seitzinger of Metropolis; two sons, Scott Seitzinger and wife Susan of Paducah and Brad Seitzinger and wife Jill of Oxford, Mich.; his grandchildren, Jonathan Seitzinger, Daniel Seitzinger and Emily Seitzinger, all of Paducah, and Claire Seitzinger and Eli Seitzinger, both of Oxford; one sister, Kay Dennis and husband John of Flat Rock; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Elizabeth Parker Seitzinger.

Funeral service was held Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Metropolis with Rev. Gary Motta and Rev. Jon Cockrel officiating. Music was provided by Stecia Gregory and Melanie Koch.

Burial followed at Metropolis Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Dan Goins, Steve Woodward, Steve Mills, Vaughn Johnson, Charles Cornwell, Bob Lingle, Jonathan Seitzinger, Daniel Seitzinger and Chuck Durham.

Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home of Metropolis was in charge of arrangements.
