Mr. Swenney was a retired Boilermaker with Local 363. He was a member of Upper Salem Baptist Church and an Army veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Ramsey Swenney of Metropolis; two daughters, Ruth E. Seibert and husband Bill of Paducah and Rose M. Swenney and fiancé Bud of Terra Haute, Ind.; three sons, John R. Swenney and wife Vicki and Gerald Swenney, all of Metropolis, and Kevin Swenney and wife Stacy of Newnan, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. Swenney and Effie Warwick Swenney Schneeman; his stepfather, Louis Schneeman; one son, Howard Swenney; one granddaughter, Virginia Powers; one sister, Myrtle Campbell; and two brothers, Carl Swenney and Robert Swenney.
Graveside service was held Saturday at IOOF Cemetery in Metropolis with Rev. Mike Duncan officiating. Military rites were conducted.
