Massac County ran its record to 6-3 with a well played 3-2 win over Herrin Friday.

In two of Massac’s losses, errors hurt the Patriots and the other team made the plays when they had to.

On Friday, the tables turned for the young Patriots.

Trailing 2-0 — partly because of an error — going into the fourth inning, the boys rallied for a pair to tie the game, and from the dugout the “vibe” was different.

A weak point for the young Pats has been an inability to capitalize on early opportunities and the Herrin game started out much the same as did a couple of the losses. Massac stranded two runners in the first inning and had left five on base through the first three innings.

The fourth frame told the tale, though. Sophomore catcher Tyler Jennings started the rally with a single, and Dalton Mitchell followed Jennings’ hit with a double, moving Jennings to third.
