It’s good to be a Massac County High School Lady Patriot volleyballer right about now.
The varsity ladies just concluded a 5-0 stroll through the Fairfield Mule Mash Invitational last Saturday and were installed as the number one seed in the Marion Class AAA regional.
The girls played Tuesday at press time against Marion, who beat Herrin in first round action.
The Marion regional championship game will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday.
The ladies finished regular season play with a record of 28-5 and on a six-game winning streak.
At Fairfield, the girls went 5-0 beating Flora, Grayville, Martinsville, Mt. Vernon and Fairfield.
Rachael Leek and Emily Hoard were named to the all tournament team, and Hoard was voted the tournament’s outstanding player.
For the second year in a row, the Lady Patriots won the Ohio division of the Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference (SIRR) conference. Also for the second year in a row, the girls were unbeaten at home.
Massac’s talented freshman class also had a huge year, going 20-1 overall and 10-0 in the conference.
The Lady Patriots junior varsity team wasn’t to be outdone either, putting together a 17-3 slate and taking second place in the conference. The JV avenged two of their three losses, both to Murphysboro, in the West Frankfort JV Invitational by beating the Lady Red Devils.
The JV team was 4-0 in the tourney beating Carmi-White County in the championship match.
