The Tuesday night win over Herrin was a back-and-forth affair with both teams struggling to score at different times.
Herrin grabbed an 11-5 first quarter lead only to see Massac County turn the tables in the second quarter. Massac held the Lady Tigers to four points in the second frame and tallied 11 of their own to take a 16-15 halftime lead. The third quarter was equally as tight as Massac put 17 points on the board to Herrin’s 16 for a 33-31 lead.
Then things got interesting as the Lady Pats found themselves down by as much as six points deep into the final quarter. But the ladies rallied back to force overtime and then made a living at the free throw line, shooting and making eight free tosses in the extra period to eke out a five point, 61-56 victory.
