Lady Patriots claim Vienna regional title

Massac County’s Lady Patriots proudly hold the hardware they reclaimed from the Lady Eagles of Vienna in regional tournament play Thursday in Vienna. Team members are Natalie Bailey, Taylor Klankey, Emily Hoard, Summer Clapp, Destiny Turner, Kaylee Childers, Shawnie Weaver, Rebecca Reames, Kristina Henley, Lauren Bunting, Karsen Smith, Morgan McCutcheon, Chelsey Burnham, Jessie Douglas and Ashleigh Kendall.

Massac County’s Lady Patriots avenged last year’s loss in the finals of the Carterville regional to Vienna with a 40-24 victory last Thursday night on the Lady Eagles’ home court to lay claim to the regional title.

The ladies used a stifling defense and the absence of one of Vienna’s better players, Maranda Chance, to ruin the home folks’ night.

Following a somewhat lethargic 52-38 win over first round opponent Anna-Jonesboro, the ladies opened a little flat against Vienna and looked to be in some trouble after the first eight minutes of play.
