After a couple of good wins over Mascoutah and Mt.Vernon and a win over an almost hapless Okawville team, Massac County’s Lady Patriots took on Nashville in the title game of the Nashville Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday.

A poorly played first half gave way to some excitement in the second half and a better quality of basketball but ultimately a 45-38 loss for the Lady Pats. Turnovers and misses were the order of the day in the first half as Massac held Nashville without a field goal for the first 10:17 of the first half.

Southern Illinois’ Golfer of the Year, Shawn Rennegarbe scored on an offensive rebound to pry the lid off the Nashville goal with 5:43 left in the first half but Massac took a 12-10 lead to the locker room.

A 10-0 run by Nashville, led by Hannah Yung and Rennegarbe, after tying the game at 16, gave Nashville a lead that proved to be insurmountable.

Jessie Douglas and Natalie Bailey led the Lady Patriots back to within one point on two different occasions, but the girls couldn’t get over the hump and lost by an eventual seven-point margin.
