Massac County’s Lady Patriot softball team got “off the schneid” last week with a week-ending 8-2 win over Benton.

Tori Johnson and her Lady Tigers from Herrin extended the ladies’ misfortunes on Tuesday with a 7-2 win over Massac.

In the Herrin loss, Tiger hurler Johnson continued her dominance over the Lady Pats with a two-hitter.

Johnson limited the Lady Pats to one hit when the Tigers visited Metropolis earlier. Herrin owned a 4-0 lead after three innings before Gracyn McBride stroked a long, long home run to center with Jessie Douglas on board. The two runs were absolutely all that Johnson had intentions of giving up, however, as she shut down the ladies on one hit the rest of the way.

Herrin plated three more runs late to complete the scoring at 7-2.

Last Friday at home the Lady Patriots found things more to their liking as Sydney Boyd held the Lady Rangers’ bats in check and Massac’s bats woke up.

Douglas racked up three hits and missed only the home run to hit “for the cycle.”

Massac ripped 14 hits in plating eight runs. Josie Garduno and Jordyn Smith each chipped in a pair of doubles, and Jessie Lamb also added a two bagger for the ladies. Boyd scattered eight hits for the win, yielding a pair of solo home runs to Benton.

Massac’s record improved to 8-6 with the win.
