Joppa’s Lady Rangers dropped their first volleyball match of the season in a three set loss to Century in their season debut Monday night.

After dropping a tough 18-25 first set, the girls rebounded to pound out a 25-11 second set win. The “rubber match” third set went to Century 16-25 as Joppa couldn’t pull off the win.

Katie Bennett had a big night for Joppa recording 12 points and seven kills. Hannah Harris had 10 points. Hailey Kendall had nine points and nine kills. Gabby Wrye also had six kills for the Lady Rangers.

Coach Michelle Johnson was pleased with the effort. “We did much better against them than we did last year. I believe the work the girls put in this summer is going to pay off. We just have to develop a little bit of the ‘killer instinct’ and a little more self confidence,” she said.
