Local contestants to compete Sunday

Excitement is building for the 2013 Miss Metropolis Scholarship Program, set for 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

The pageant will be held at Harrah's Special events Center in Metropolis.

During the evening, the Miss Metropolis Outstanding Teen will also be crowned as well as Miss Metropolis Outstanding Preteen and the Miss Metropolis Princess.

Miss Illinois Outstanding Teen 2012 Grace Khachaturian will emcee the event.

Entertainment this year will feature Meredith Hosman, Miss Metropolis 2012; Mackenzie Meadows-Puckett, Miss Metropolis Outstanding Teen 2012; Cami Horman, Miss Metropolis Outstanding Preteen 2012; and for the first time, the Miss Metropolis Princess 2012 Ashlynn Kommer will perform a piano piece.

Miss Metropolis contestants are:

• Winter Hall, 17, of Brookport, daughter of Sharlon Hall; talent: jazz dance to Fire Burning; and platform: Read Across America.

• Samantha Jaco, 20, of Metropolis, daughter of Bobby and Katie Jaco; talent: Broadway vocal to Don’t Rain on My Parade; and platform: Confidence Coalition.

• Paula Jaco, 17, of Metropolis, daughter of Bobby and Katie Jaco; talent: flute solo to Minuet; and platform: Take 10, Save 3: The Importance of Red Cross Blood Donation.

• Taylor Deming, 17, of Metropolis, daughter of Scott and Sherry Deming; talent: ballet en pointe to Angel; and platform: Backpack Program: Feeding America.

• Hannah Lowery, 17, of Metropolis, daughter of Matt and Nicole Lowery; talent: classical piano to Flight of the Bumblebee; and platform: Hope for Our Heroes.

They will compete in interview, talent, swimsuit and evening wear.

Miss Outstanding Teen contestants are:

• Stephanie Davis, 16, of Brookport, daughter of Tim and Tonya Davis; talent: classical piano to Musette in D Major; and platform: Motorcycle Safety.

• Madison Schmidt, 15, of Metropolis, daughter of Tim and Brenda Schmidt; talent: vocal to Dirt Road Prayer; and platform: Cheerleading Champion Programs.

• Maddie Bowlin, 13, of Metropolis, daughter of Tom and Lynn Bowlin; talent: vocal and guitar to Our God; and platform: Heart Healthy Habits.

• Kelsey Strong, 15, of Metropolis, daughter of Chris and Teresa Strong; talent: classical piano to Fur Elise; and platform: Keeping Music Alive.

• Ashlyn Atkison, 12, of Metropolis, daughter of Matt and Natalie Atkison; talent: instrumental guitar to Safe and Sound; and platform: Help For the Homeless.
