Louis Bayless, 85, of rural Grand Chain, passed away Friday, Oct. 14, 2011 at his home.
Born May 8, 1926 in the Hillerman community to Harlie and Cina Stubblefield Bayless, Mr. Bayless was in the Armed Forces serving his country during World War II. He retired in 1988 after 35 years of service with Electric Energy Inc. of Joppa.
Mr. Bayless enjoyed raising beef cattle and camping.
In earlier years, Mr. Bayless attended Hillerman Church of Christ, but after moving close to Grand Chain, he and his wife, Betty, attended First Christian Church, as long as their health permitted.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Betty Manley Bayless; two daughters, Cina Blankenship and husband Luke, and Louise Blanchard and husband Garold; five grandchildren, Rusty Blanchard and wife Julie, Lori Wright and husband Scott, Buffy Wright and husband Jody, Lindsey Blankenship and Pfc. Dalton Blankenship with the U.S. Army in Iraq; eight great-grandchildren; and one brother, Paul Bayless and wife Glenda.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Canada Bayless; and one daughter, Linda Bayless.
Funeral service was held Monday at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Bro. Gerrell Cain officiating.
Burial followed at Masonic Cemetery in Belknap with military graveside rites conducted. Pallbearers were Shane Halvorson, Rusty Blanchard, Scott Wright, Austin Wright, Jody Wright, Blake Wright and Dalton Blankenship.
