Massac County’s boys golf team whipped Herrin’s Tigers quite handily last week by a score of 157 for Massac to 177 for Herrin.

The dual meet was the second conference win for Massac.

Junior Dalton Korte paced Massac with a 36 while Zach Burnham shot 38. Mitchell Stegman carded a 41 and freshman Jon Duley rounded out Massac scoring with a 42. Nick Hunerkoch recorded a 45 and Luke Wieneke came in with a 48.

The boys played Saturday in a 13 team shootout at Ballard Country Club. Powerhouse St. Mary breezed through the field firing an astounding three under par for the team score. The 285 team total was 19 strokes better than their nearest competitor, Graves County.

Massac finished seventh as a team at 319 but the team score and overall finish were somewhat misleading as Korte withdrew due to an injury. Union County, Ky. standout Duncan McCormick shot a blazing six under 66 to take individual honors while St. Mary placed four golfers in the top six.

Burnham paced the Pats with a tidy 75 while freshman Drake Stepter fired a 76. Stegman came in at 79 and Duley shot 89 to complete Massac scoring.
