The 50th annual Benton Freshmen Invitational came down to the host school’s junior Rangers and Massac County’s youngest Patriots, and then it came down to overtime as the ninth-grade Patriots brought home the trophy with an exciting 64-63 overtime win.

The tournament was held Dec. 9-12.

In the title game, Massac started off well with a 15-7 first quarter lead and did a good job of protecting the lead going into halftime with a 28-21 advantage.

The third quarter wasn’t so kind to the young Pats as Benton roared back with a 19-9 answer and took a 40-37 lead at the end of three.
