Massac County’s Lady Patriots volleyball team rolled to their 30th win of the year Thursday with a surprisingly easy 25-19 and 25-13 win over the Lady Red Devils of Murphysboro in the championship game of the Class 3A Marion regional.

After an unsteady win over Marion in first round action, the Lady Patriots came out smokin’ against the Lady Red Devils. To my untrained eye, the ladies played an almost flawless game against Murphy.

The win over Marion went three sets — 25-22, 22-25 and 25-20 — with Marion winning the middle match before Massac prevailed.

In the championship game, Emily Hoard was a force at the net outplaying Murphy’s high-flying Kierra Nolan with 15 kills.

At one point in the opening set, following a Josie Garduno service ace, Massac held a 19-11 lead before a Nolan led comeback got the Lady ‘Devils to 20-16.

The second set was all Massac as they coasted to the 25-13 win.
