For the past two years, the Massac Junior High School (MJHS) Lady Trojans have had an unstoppable winning streak going 50-0.

The Lady Trojans will once again return to the state tournament after winning the 2014 Harrisburg regional tournament. They won the semi-final against Harrisburg Thursday night by the set scores of 25-11 and 25-22.  The second set was going in Harrisburg’s favor, 13-19, when Bailey Duckworth stepped in and served up four straight points.  Slowly, Massac regained the lead with steady defense and smart hitting.

Bailey Cissell led the team in kills with a total of nine. Aubrey Biggers and Emily Griffith followed with seven kills and four kills respectively.  Ellie Weber had a total of 16 assists, Brooke Stepter had five digs. Duckworth was 13/13 serving.

game against Marion.

The first set was tightly contested with back-and-forth lead changes from both teams.  But, as they have all season, the Lady Trojans out-willed their opponent at the end, winning the first set 27-25.

During the first set, Massac was lagging behind Marion when Mya Draffen stepped on to the court and gave the team a defensive lift, picking up five digs. With the first set in hand, Massac continued to extend their lead in the second set winning 25-17.

Cissel again led her team in kills with 10.  Biggers followed with six, and Alayna Reed came out with 5.  Weber finished with 17 assists. Duckworth was 12/12 serving, while Paige Box was 7/7 serving. Stepter led the Lady Trojans defensively, picking up eight digs.

The Class L state tournament will be held Saturday at Pinkneyville High School. The Lady Trojans will play Collinsville at 10 a.m.
