Members of the Massac County Historical Society book committee deliver about 7000 brochures to the Metropolis post office as the committee begins an effort to receive family histories for an updated county history book, Massac County, Illinois History and Families. Postal service employee Dianne Haverkamp, center, accepts the mailing from committee members, from left, Glenda Sullivan, co-chair Cheryl Honey, co-chair Betsy Fellows, Brenda Mizell and Paul Fellows and Duane Sikes, the representative for the book’s publisher Acclaim Press.

More than 7000 informative brochures were mailed Tuesday as Massac County Historical Society kicked off its project to publish an updated history of the county and its families.
The brochure encourages present and former residents of the county to submit family histories and photographs for publication in the forthcoming book.
There will be no charge for histories, which cannot exceed 500 words. One photograph may also be included at no charge.
Brochures were mailed to each address in the county, plus a number of out-of-the-area residents, so every household should receive a copy of the brochure this week.
