Margie Ann Herring, 54, of Metropolis passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 23, 2012 at her home with her family by her side.

Ann was born July 16, 1957 at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis.

She lived in Metropolis all of her life where she worked for the Massac County Unit One School District, retiring in 2010 after 20 years of service.

On Aug. 1, 1975, she married Kenneth Edward Herring her husband of over 36 years. She is also survived by her two children, Doug Herring of Miami, Fla. and David Herring and wife Mandy of Nashville, Tenn.

Ann had an unbreakable spirit and a strong faith. She was able to fight and survive lung cancer in 2006, but that did not stop her from living life to the fullest.

Family was the most important thing in her life, and she enjoyed spending time with them above all else.

She was a blossoming artist, with interests ranging from pottery and painting to card making.

She enjoyed going for motorcycle rides and traveling around the country.

She was preceded in death by her father, Bobby Ray Jones; and her grandma and grandpa, Bob and Kerrie Jones.

Funeral service was held Friday at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Dr. James Nelson officiating. Burial followed at Metropolis Masonic Cemetery.
