Marilyn was born Aug. 2, 1925 to Ras and Doris Franklin Owens. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Metropolis and Beta Sigma Phi. She worked for many years at the Massac County Courthouse, where she worked as a secretary.
Marilyn leaves behind to celebrate her life one daughter, Cathy Jones and one son, Jeff Grimes and wife Diane; one granddaughter, Darby Jones McMillen and husband Ryan and one great-grandson, Nash Grayson McMillen; one grandson, Stephen Grimes; and granddaughter, Emily Grimes and her fiancé Jason Trout.
She also leaves behind one brother, Jim Owens and wife Alice; a beloved sister, Shirley Holder, who was truly a best friend; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Robert “Bill” Grimes; two brothers, Robert Vernon Owens and Donald Owens; and one brother-in-law, H.T. Holder.
A memorial graveside service was held Monday at Metropolis Memorial Gardens with Rev. Joe Buchanan officiating.
