Marion Wright, 92, of rural Cypress, formerly of the Benton community in Johnson County, died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at his home.

Born Nov. 18, 1919 in Simpson, Mr. Wright was of the Baptist faith and attended Temple Hill Church. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity.

Mr. Wright was in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1937–1939.

He later served in the U.S. Army from 1942–45 in the Asiatic/Pacific theater of operation during World War II.

Mr. Wright was employed by the Illinois Department of Corrections at the Stateville Correctional Center in Joliet and later at the Menard Correctional Center in Chester, retiring in 1982.

For the next 11 years, Mr. Wright worked part-time with the U.S. Forest Service through the Senior Community Service Employment Program.

Survivors include three daughters, Sue Hemphill and husband Lon of Temple Hill, Pat Dennis and companion, Mark Baker of Boynton Beach, Fla. and Marilyn Wright-Verkamman of Cypress; one daughter-in-law, Charlotte Ditterline of Kankakee; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Rudolph Wright of Metropolis and Richard Wright of Golconda; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Delphia Morgan Wright; his wife of 57 years, Amy M. Ditterline Wright; one stepson, Don Ditterline; and two brothers, Glenn Wright and James Ward Wright.

Funeral service was held Saturday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna with Rev. Roy Hughes and Rev. Jerry Parr officiating.

Burial followed at Temple Hill Cemetery in Pope County.
