Martha Lea Peyton was born June 8, 1923 in McCracken County, Ky. to the late Edward Richard Peyton and Maggie Lee Dillworth Peyton.
She was a graduate of Heath High School and had worked at Magnavox Manufacturing.
Martha was a faithful and longtime member of Harmony Baptist Church, where she was an assistant Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir and was a vacation Bible school coordinator.
She was an artist who created woodcrafts and also wrote poetry. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening.
Surviving are her children, Carol Ann Howle and husband Jack of West Paducah, Donna Korte and husband Kent of Metropolis and Kenny Cooper and Chris Cooper, both of Kevil; one sister, Edith DeBold and husband Raymond of Paducah; three sisters-in-law, Wilma Peyton of West Paducah and Frances Mundy and Elsie Cooper, both of Paducah; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, O.H. “Son” Cooper; her parents; two sisters, Nina Wallace and Mary Stone; and one brother, Paul Peyton.
Funeral service was held Sunday at Milner and Orr Funeral Home in Paducah with Rev. Jewell Barrett and Rev. Bill Miller officiating. Burial followed at Newton Creek Cemetery.
