Mary Kibler Hadley, 89, of Hollister, Mo., formerly of Metropolis, died after a short hospital stay on Monday, Aug. 15, 2011 in Branson, Mo.

Mary moved to Metropolis in the early 1950s. She was married to Wyndell Kibler, who worked at Electric Energy Inc. of Joppa and raised four children Carol, Ronald, Dorothy and Emily Kibler.

Mary and her family lived on Lindsey Avenue and made many friends that they loved. Mary was known for her fruit pies that she made for school bake sales, for covering and dying shoes when that was in fashion and for her excellence in dog grooming.

In later years, she spent most of her time fishing in the surrounding area for crappie and bluegill with her daughters and her fishing buddies, Alma Schwegman and Shirley Holly.

In later years, Mary lived in Hollister with her second husband, Leon Hadley, to whom she was married for 29 years. Mary and Leon loved to fish and were well known on Lake Taneycomo for befriending and teaching other fisherman how to catch trout.

When they weren’t trout fishing, they went to Tablerock and Bull Shoals lakes to fish for crappie and bluegill.

In addition to her love of fishing, Mary loved her poodles.

She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Mildred Hickman. They were the first twins born in Bishop, Calif. on July 7, 1922, to Mary E. and Dalmas Hacker. Most of their early life was spent in the Harrisburg area, where they went to school and Mary met and married Wyndell F. Kibler in 1940.

Mary was also preceded in death by her son, Ronald Forrest Kibler on June 3, 1962 in Metropolis.

She is survived by her daughters, Carol Hadley of Hollister, Dorothy and Nick Jamison of Encampment, Wyo. and Emily Kibler of Wildwood, Mo.; her stepdaughter, Cindy Buescher and husband Jim of Marthasville, Mo.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held at Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home in Hollister on Friday.

Memorials may be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
