Mrs. Yates was a member of Metropolis First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son, Gary and wife Linda Yates of Lake in the Hills; her daughter-in-law, Jan Yates of Kingston; four grandchildren, Tim Yates of Lake in the Hills, Michael Yates of Chicago, Jeremy Yates and wife Amy of Sycamore and Nicole Yates and companion Eric Klausen of Kingston; seven great-grandchildren, Alexis Yates of Lake in the Hills, Cassidy, Kendell, Kala and Camryan Klausen, all of Kingston, and Jacob Yates and Owen David Yates, both of Sycamore, and her extended family: one sister-in-law, Sharon Lang and husband Donnie of Metropolis; two brothers-in-law, Jim Yates and wife Susan of St. George, Utah and Jack Yates and wife Connie of Metropolis; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ike and Nora Windhorst Cook; her husband, Herbert; one son, David Yates; two sisters; and four brothers.
Funeral service was held Saturday at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Motta officiating. Burial followed at Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
