Odress Sommer, 97, of Metropolis, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 23, 2012 at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis.

Ordress was a member of Weaver Creek Baptist Church in Metropolis.

He was a retired carpenter by trade, where he was a union member for over 55 years.

Ordress also was a farmer on the same farm for over 70 years.

He is survived by his son, Paul Wayne Sommer and wife Shirley of Metropolis; one granddaughter, Sherry Wessel and husband Myron of Metropolis; one great-granddaughter, Macy Wessel of Metropolis; one sister, Pauline Warren of Fulton, Ky.; three brothers, Ralph Sommer and wife Jeanette, William Sommer and Amos Sommer, all of Metropolis; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Teckenbrock Sommer; one son, Wilburn Clyde; his parents, Sherman and Rosa Sommer; one brother, Russell Somer; and two sisters, Waiva Burnett and Lorraine Burnett.

Funeral service was held Sunday at Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis with Pastor Shawn Vandergriff officiating.

Burial followed at Metropolis Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Phillip Sommer, Jerry Burnett, Gary McGinnis, Larry Sommer, Frankie Sommer and Darrell Burnett.
