Patrick “Pat” Souders, 62, of Brookport, passed away at 8:40 p.m. on Monday, May 21, 2012 at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.

Pat was born in Paducah on March 21, 1950 and raised in Brookport his whole life. He was a member of the Brookport Methodist Church. He attended Brookport School and ITT Technical Institute. He could fix anything.

He married Donna on March 27, 1971. Together they opened Pat’s Market in 1971 and have worked together since the beginning. Working hard, he has grown a successful business that he loved. He truly loved talking and joking with everyone that came in to the store and around town. He would do anything for you, all you had to do was ask and he was there to lend a helping hand.

Pat is survived by his wife of 41 years, Donna Souders of Brookport; one daughter, Angela Jo Jackson and husband Jeff of Indianapolis, Ind.; two grandsons, Zachary Wayne Jackson and Thomas Greggory Jackson, both of Indianapolis; his mother, Alma Lou Souders of Brookport; three brothers, Mike Souders and wife Carla, Bill Ed Souders and wife Vickie and Mark Souders and wife Suzanne, all of Metropolis; one sister, Tammy Beggs and husband Mike of Metropolis; two aunts, Violet Lee Rogers of Jeffersonville, Ind. and Jenny Barnes of Brookport; three sisters-in-law, Sharon Butler and husband Jonah of Harrisburg, Pat Blankenship and husband Jimmy of Brownfield and Bonnie Mott and husband Junior of Vienna; three brothers-in-law, Bob Reed and wife Carolyn of Marion, Ronnie Reed and wife Vickie of Glendale and Lonnie Reed and wife Carla of Harrisburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Pat was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Gilmore Souders; and his mother- and father-in-law, Vivian and Clarence Reed.

He loved cars and racing. Working on old cars and engines was a passion. He loved to attend races including NASCAR and sprint car. If you wanted a friendly discussion on who the best driver was…just ask him and he would tell you. He even served as crew chief for Souders’ Racing with his brother, Bill Ed, and nephew, Chad. He loved family. He loved his grandsons; they made his eyes light up. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. His smile was contagious. He will truly be missed.
