When the brackets were released for the 47th annual Eldorado Holiday Tournament (EHT), the pundits rated Harrisburg the top seed.

They had Meridian as the number two seed, Herrin was third and Massac County was fourth.

That all seemed logical as Harrisburg and Meridian have been state-ranked all year, Herrin has been hot lately and Massac has always acquitted itself well at Eldorado.

When the dust cleared last Wednesday night, the top four finishers closely resembled the predicted order with Harrisburg beating Herrin 46-45 to win its second consecutive EHT crown and Meridian snatching victory from the jaws of defeat against Massac in a 57-54 come from behind win to take third place.

Harrisburg’s barnburner win avenged their earlier overtime loss to Herrin and made them the first team since West Frankfort [2003-04] to take back to back titles at Eldorado.
