The struggles for the young Massac County High School Patriot baseball team continued last week as the Pats dropped a trio of games, including Monday afternoon’s match with Carterville.

The three losses were pretty much snapshots of the season the boys are having. All three were competitive and all three were keyed by either a lack of hitting, an untimely error or two or just misplays. Throw in the fact that the young Pats just can’t seem to catch a break and you have a losing streak.

West Frankfort took their rematch with the Pats by a score of 6-1 as they plated a single run in the first off of Dalton Mitchell and followed that with a pair in the second.

After Massac got on the board in the sixth with a run that cut the Redbird lead to 3-1, West Frankfort put up three huge unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game on ice. With one out, West Frankfort coaxed a walk then welcomed a series of throwing errors by the Pats to push across three more big ones. ••• TO READ THE ENTIRE STORY ONLINE, PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO THE PLANET'S e-EDITION •••
