Herrin’s Justin Lukens poured in 20 points to lead all scorers, but in the critical last eight minutes of the game, it was Daz Nickerson’s sticky defense on Lukens that made the ultimate difference.

Herrin started off quickly in Friday night’s contest, claiming a 7-2 lead before a Dalton Mitchell three pointer cut the lead to 7-5.

A Lukens bucket gave Herrin a 9-6 edge until Nickerson canned his first three ball of the night for a 9 all tie.

A nice exchange between Austin Kendall and Ethan Schulte ended with a Schulte bucket and a 13-9 first quarter Massac lead.

Massac tried to pull away with a 15-10 second quarter behind a Mitchell onslaught. Mitchell accounted for 10 of Massac’s 15 second quarter points.
