On an absolutely gorgeous day, and with a packed nine team field, the girls’ team rolled to a 15 stroke win over nearest competitor Nashville, 327-342, and the boys were a little tougher on their guests as they took an eighteen stroke victory over second place Hamilton County.
The girls once again proved to be just too balanced for the competition. While Nashville’s Shawn Rennegarbe took medalist honors on the girls’ side and Paducah Tilghman’s Teri Doss nailed down second overall, the balance of Massac County’s scoring was too much.
Rennegarbe earned medalist honors with a fine round of 72, Doss came in at 73 and Massac’s Kirsten Faulkner took third overall with a 77.
With Faulkner in the 70s, Massac’s other three counters blew away the rest of the field as Ali Eickholz fired an 82, Sami Weber carded an 83 and Peyton Helm finished with an 85.
Massac’s four counting scores all finished in the top ten overall for medal honors. Also playing for Massac were Paige Ellerbusch, 95; and Brittany Reynolds, 96. Playing as individuals were Addie Gray, 97; Carlin Flannery, 104; Sydney Boyd, 106; and Jessica Coakley, 111.
The boys were equally impressive in their win. Maybe even a touch more so. Zach Burnham shot a nice, five-over 76 which was good enough for a tie for fifth place overall.
