Meridian’s Bobcats claimed their sixth straight Vienna Thanksgiving Classic basketball title with a 93-84 overtime win over Massac County before a full house at Vienna.

Despite falling behind 11-2 in the first quarter and trailing 59-45 with just over one minute left in the third quarter, the Patriots roared back behind the hot hand of Dalton Mitchell to tie the game at 78 and send it into overtime.

Meridian’s Josh Jones was every bit Mitchell’s equal in the first half, pouring in 15 points and leading the Bobcats to a 42-34 halftime lead. With Meridian expanding their eight point halftime lead, the Patriots seemed to be teetering on the verge of a blowout loss when Mitchell streaked downcourt and capped what was going to be a Jones dunk from behind with four minutes left in the third quarter.

That staved off what seemed to be coming and the comeback began in earnest when Mitchell canned an NBA-range three pointer to open the final stanza.
