For about as long as I can remember, Massac County’s Patriot basketball team plays its best ball right around the time of the Superman Classic.

Well guess what starts next week? Good, bad or indifferent, it’s happening again.

Does it mean anything? Heck I don’t know.

I know this, however, the weekend wins over Benton and DuQuoin had quarters and halves that were as good as the Patriots have played all year.

In Friday night’s Benton contest, as the Pats left the court with a 39-18 halftime lead, Coach Joe Hosman was heard saying, “Man that was a good half.”

Indeed. Massac sprinted to a 28-6 first quarter lead against the Rangers and the rout was on. Benton was able to play a closer game in the second half against various combinations of Massac players but the end result was a 66-46 Patriot win.
