Richard “Dickie” James, 68, of Metropolis, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at his home.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Antioch Baptist Church in Rosebud with Rev. Jerry Parr officiating.

A meal will be served following the service.

A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Richard was born Feb. 9, 1946 in Harrisburg to William and Eva Joan James of the Rosebud community.

He married Sharon Barger of the Cedar Grove community on Aug. 3, 1943.

Dickie will be remembered for his carpenter skills and his singing ability. He performed at many local functions and benefits with the Rocky Creek Band.

He will also be remembered for his friendly, gentle nature. He loved people and people loved him.

Richard leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 50 years, Sharon; one daughter, Carol Wood and husband Rodney; one grandson, Craig Allen Wood and fiancée Michelle Bilderback; one sister, Sandra Sundmacker; one niece, Chandra Burklow and husband Keith; one nephew, Brian Sundmacker and wife Charlotte; one cousin, Jan Harned; and two great-nieces, Amanda and Mallory Burklow, who are all members of Sharon’s family who were very near and dear to him; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Cheryl Ann; one brother, Ricky Allen; and one brother-in-law, Charles Sundmacker.
