Rickey Joe Diles 62, of Metropolis, son of Dorris Herman and Marjorie Isis Nickless Diles, was born on April 29, 1950 in Thayer, Mo. He departed this life on May 29, 2012 at his home near Metropolis surrounded by his family.

On April 10, 1976 he was united in marriage to Betty McCormick. To this union two children were born.

He was a graduate of Jefferson Elementary School, Metropolis Community High School and a business college in Cape Girardeau, Mo. He attended Freed-Hardeman College in Henderson, Tenn. His years of employment include a sawmill and True-Value Hardware as a bookkeeper in Thayer; Marshall Fields in Chicago and many years as a dedicated employee at Laidlaw in Metropolis.

Rick was baptized in Christ at the age of 13 at the Metropolis Church of Christ. He loved leading singing and in early years occasionally preached the Gospel. Rick had a deep abiding faith. He showed much strength and courage while coping many years with his disabling disease. His positive attitude served as a source of encouragement to all who were around him. Rick will be fondly remembered and truly missed by many.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Betty; one son, Christopher Aaron Diles and wife Chelsi of Vienna; one daughter, Amber Leigh Loverkamp and husband Marvin of Oceanside, Calif.; his mother Marjorie Diles of Metropolis; and one sister, Brenda Nicholson and husband Lanis of Mamoth Spring, Ark. He was “Papa” to two grandsons, Brayden Diles and Kirk Loverkamp, and one granddaughter, Skyler Loverkamp; and three stepgrandsons, Mason Kerley, Kadon Hill and Waylon Hill. Other survivors include several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; aunts and cousins; and two special caregivers, Christine Faulkner and Yvette Brown.

He was preceded in death by his father; and his brother, Dr. Jack Diles.

Funeral service was held Saturday, at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Mike Shank officiating. Burial followed at Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
