Ruth was born May 29, 1925, in Metropolis, the daughter of Jesse and Emma Bremer Verbarg. She married Vernon B. Randall on Feb. 21, 1950 in Metropolis. He preceded her in death on March 24, 2012.
During the many years that Ruth and her family lived and grew in Bloomington, she worked as an activity director for a nursing home, a caregiver for the terminally ill and was an in-home seamstress. But, she most cherished her roles as a mother, a grandmother and a housewife.
Ruth was a member for 48 years at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bloomington. Upon moving to Galesburg in 1999, she became a member of First Lutheran Church. Throughout her many years of church membership, she served as an organist, a pianist, a choir member, Sunday school teacher and a member of many women’s church guilds. Her love of the old hymns, along with her beautiful singing voice, made her a much requested song leader at many gatherings
She is survived by a son, Warren Randall and wife Janis of Galesburg; one daughter, Karen Randall-King and husband Ted of Galesburg; four grandchildren, Sean, Seth, Nathan and Aaron; five great-grandchildren, Reid, Mackenzie, Lauren, Emily and Olivia; and one sister, Naomi Wittig of Metropolis.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Lauren Verbarg.
The body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Metropolis at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Knox County Nursing Home.
