Exactly four years later, several from that night who went on to form the Save The Massac (STM) committee gathered Tuesday in front of the theater for a ceremonial key passing.
“I think this is the way it was meant to be,” said Lisa Gower, STM coordinator.
The Massac Theatre was built in the 1930s and was open from 1938 to 1978. While it reopened for a short period of time, it was empty until 1982 when Sun Industries purchased it and put a radio station in upstairs. But when the radio station was moved, the building was abandoned and fell into disrepair.
