Jacob Myers, Eli Rose and Ross Scheve were each awarded $1000 after receiving the Coach J.D. Seitzinger Memorial Scholarship.
The fund was set up to award cash scholarships to entering college freshmen who have participated in any of the sports Seitzinger coached at Massac County High School — including track and field, cross country and boys’ basketball.
Candidates are selected based on their drive and hard work, commitment to the team and good sportsmanship — “qualities that my husband valued in his athletes,” DeEtta Seitzinger said. Applicants submitted a 150-word essay citing their accomplishments in school and sports and their future plans and goals.
Myers participated in four sports at MCHS: four seasons of football, four seasons of basketball, two seasons of track and field and one season of tennis. He will be attending Shawnee Community College.
Rose played four years in both football and basketball and two years in track. He will attend Rend Lake College.
Scheve participated in four years of cross country, two years of tennis and two years of soccer. He plans to major in biology/pre-physical therapy at Murray State University.
