Massac County’s soccer team has become a formidable opponent for the schools of southern Illinois and western Kentucky.

Even after a hard fought 1-0 loss Monday afternoon to a battle hardened Marion team, the boys’ 6-2 record against a quality schedule speaks volumes about how far this young program has come.

A 2-1 win last week against a tough Mayfield team and a 5-0 loss to up-and-coming Anna-Jonesboro led up to Monday afternoon’s game against Marion.

A defensive struggle from the onset, the 1-0 decision hung only the second loss on the Patriots.

The boys travel to Harrisburg Thursday for a rematch with the Bulldogs. The Patriots throttled the ‘Dawgs earlier by a score of 9-0.
