Massac County’s girls soccer team was awarded second place this past weekend, even though they were unbeaten and unscored on. In the Harrisburg Tornado Memorial Tournament, the girls beat Salem 3-0 on Friday night. They then eked out a 1-0 win over Olney on Saturday and capped off a strong showing with an 8-0 shellacking of Centralia.
By reason of having outscored their opponents by a slightly larger margin than did Massac County, Freeburg was awarded first place in the tournament.
In Friday night’s win over Salem, Hayley Williams drove home a pair of goals and Tahneshia Bradshaw scored one goal and recorded an assist for Massac’s 3-0 win.
