A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 11 at Community Christian Church in Metropolis with Rev. Mike Hardison officiating.
Terry was born in Danville on Jan. 31, 1937 and grew to adulthood in the country near Ridgefarm. He married Martha Reeves on June 4, 1957 and to this union was born three children: Susan Howell and husband Jon, Lori Giles and husband Alberto Avila and Julie Daunis. There are five beloved grandchildren, Denise Brown, Patrick Howell and wife Kelly, Nicholas Daunis and wife Rana, Doran Brown and Jamie Daunis; and two great-grandchildren, Daunte White and Riley Howell.
Terry came to Massac County in 1958 with the Allied Chemical Co. but later worked many locations on construction. He participated in forming a Boy Scout Troop at a local church and had many fond memories of all the boys and their “escapades.” They went on many camping trips and always came back home smelling of campfire smoke.
One of his fondest times were his family gatherings on birthdays and holidays. He loved sitting at the dining table with all the kids seated around him.
He was a faithful member of Community Christian Church and loved the Lord with all his heart.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years; all of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, as mentioned earlier; and his siblings, Curt Giles and wife Linda of Maryland, Connie Yates and husband Jack of Metropolis and Roberta Edwards and husband Dan of Geneva.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Hazel Giles.
Visitation will be held from noon until the funeral hour Wednesday at the church.
