The curtain fell on Massac County’s Patriot soccer team Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Columbia. The Anna-Jonesboro Wildcats took the measure of the Pats for the third time this season and put the wraps on an 8 win-8 loss-1 tie season.

The 2-0 loss was a taut, scoreless affair for 60-plus minutes before a point blank shot by A-J ricocheted off of several players’ feet and found the net. Ten minutes later, that scenario was basically repeated and Anna held a 2-0 lead.

Earlier in the second half, a great goal line stop by an Anna defender ruined Massac’s best shot at a goal and possibly turned the game around for the Wildcats.

For Anna, the season ended in regional championship play Friday at the hands of Waterloo Gibault with a 3-2 loss.
