Tom was born May 18, 1941 in Sangamon County, Ill. to Faye Virginia Maltby and Theodore “Junior” Walquist.
Tom had been farming with his brother, Howard, since 1964. Most recently, Tom operated a large grain and dairy farm in partnership with Howard and his son, Aric, and his nephew, Matt.
He served as a deacon in Anderson Congregational Church in Boaz.
Tom was an accomplished banjo player and a member of the bluegrass band, Poor Farm Road.
He also played in bands Boaz Country, the Wahoo Yahoos and Bent Grass. He enjoyed running, biking and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Shiryl Brauer Walquist; his son, Chris Walquist, daughter-in-law Grace and their children, Tabitha, Abbey and Lydia of Lisle; his daughter, Megan Henderson, son-in-law Jim Henderson and their children, Kendell, Briella and Lex of Belknap; his son, Aric Walquist, and daughter-in-law Kathey and their children, Andy, Madison and Emmy Faye of Belknap; his brother, Howard Walquist and sister-in-law Carolyn Walquist of Belknap, and their children, Phillip, Melissa and Matthew; his brother, Lynn Walquist and sister-in-law Brenda Walquist of Karnak, and their children, Clint and Stacey; and his sister, Diana Fowler and brother–in-law Bill Fowler of Owaneco, and their daughter Amber.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service was held Monday, Feb. 6 at Anderson Congregational Church with Rev. Gerrell Cain officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Bob Brauer, Rich Brauer, Kendell Henderson, Andy Walquist, Willie Wells and Ray Wilke.
