Massac Unit One School Board members heard from Unit One Superintendent Bill Hatfield regarding future state funding at the May 19 board meeting. He said looking forward toward May 31, as long as there are no cuts, he anticipates next year’s funding most likely will be “flat.”

According to Hatfield, there is some discussion of changes to the funding formula, which may increase money to districts, however, he pointed out if the formula is changed, Unit One would still be $200,000 short from where the district was. Currently the district is close to $2 million short of where the district was.

The board also accepted a bid from Taylor Roofing Solutions in the amount of $298,999 for the roof replacement at Brookport Elementary School. The roof was damaged in the November 17 tornado. The board also approved a bid from Erwin Builders Inc. in the amount of $33,780 for the replacement of bathroom partitions in the bathrooms at Massac County High School.
