Victor Holland, 91, of Metropolis, went to be with the Lord Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011 at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.

Mr. Holland was a World War II veteran. He served in the Navy six years, from 1939 until 1945.

He was employed at Electric Energy Inc. of Joppa for 28 years, a member of First Church of God of Metropolis and was also a Mason for 55 years.

Mr. Holland married Etta Marie Meyer on Dec. 1, 1945. They had 65 plus happy years together. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and gardening. He will be missed by his wife and numerous friends.

Besides his wife, other survivors include one daughter, Ramona Barnett of Metropolis; one son, Victor Holland and wife Karen of Metropolis; four grandchildren, Anna Holland and Richard “Alex” Holland, both of Metropolis, Raymond Barnett and wife Leslie of Chatham and Elizabeth Taylor and husband Brad of Springfield; two great-grandchildren, Grace and Gavin Taylor of Springfield; as well as 20 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Era and Agnes Brown Holland; his in-laws, Herman and Ruby Meyer; and his siblings, Dana Ivec, Lois Petts, Herbert Holland, Eugene Holland, Robert Holland, Sherry Finney and Aline Holland.

Funeral service was held Monday at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Rev. Larry Welch and Rev. Everett Shaw officiating.

Music was provided by Stecia Gregory, pianist; and Rosalie Fick and Cindy Shaw, singers.

Burial followed at the Masonic Cemetery in Metropolis with military rites conducted. Pallbearers were Brad Taylor, Wayne Faughn, Joseph Koerner, Mike Cathey, Rollie Bunting and Lynn Thompson. Honorary pallbearers were Tom Koerner and Kelly Peters.
