Born April 18, 1928 in Karnak, Mrs. Smith graduated in 1945 from Karnak High School and retired from the U.S. Postal service after 26 years, working in Karnak and also as a relief clerk in many other offices in southern Illinois. She was a member of Belknap Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include one son, Terry Smith and wife Susan of Karnak; one daughter, Sherry Rigsby of New Columbia; four grandchildren, Jason Smith and wife Jessica, Jack Rigsby and wife Heather, Allison Thompson and Katelyn Holt; six great-grandchildren, Savannah and Eden Smith, Jacqueline and Jessica Rigsby and Branden and Madisen Pearmon; one aunt, Ruth Beshear; four nieces, Debbie Rosson, Beverly Sharp and Charlene Stricklen; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Charles Smith; one grandson, Jeremy Smith; her parents, Loren and Mabel Houseright; her grandparents, Lonnie and Carrie Houseright; one sister, Verla Littleton; one uncle, Matthew Houseright; and one aunt, Francis McClellan and husband Rev. Vernon McClellan.
Funeral service was held Tuesday at Belknap Pentecostal Church with Rev. Kenneth Capps officiating. Burial followed at the Masonic Cemetery in Cypress.
Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak was in charge of arrangements.
